What DTF is, and why it changes things

DTF stands for Direct to Film. Your artwork is printed onto a transparent film first, bonded with an adhesive powder, and only then transferred to the garment with heat and pressure. It sounds like one step too many, and that extra step is exactly what makes it useful.

Because the ink never touches the fabric until the end, DTF does not care about the color or the composition of the garment. It prints just as well on a white cotton tee as on a black poly-blend hoodie, with no hand-stitched white underbase and no different setup for each material. And because it is printing rather than cutting, the number of colors in your design stops mattering: a photograph costs the same as a two-color logo.

When DTF is right, and when it isn't

We don't sell it as the answer to everything, because it isn't. This is the comparison we run ourselves before deciding how to print a job:

Your jobTechniqueWhy
Photographs, gradients, many colors DTF Color adds no cost and no complexity. It's the only method that puts a real image on fabric
Simple logo, number or name in 1-2 colors Heat transfer vinyl Lasts longer and costs less. For a jersey number, DTF is overspending
Short run, even a single piece DTF No screens to prepare, so there's no setup cost to spread across the order
Hundreds of garments, few colors Let's talk Past a certain volume there are cheaper options per unit. We'll tell you, even when it suits us less

What it works on

Cotton, polyester and blends, which covers practically everything that gets printed: t-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks and performance wear. The finish is matte to lightly glossy, flexible to the touch, without the stiff plastic feel of other transfers.

The one exception worth flagging is waterproof or water-repellent treated fabric, where adhesion is less reliable. If that's your garment, tell us first: we'll test a single piece rather than risk the whole order.

What file to send us

A PNG with a transparent background at good resolution: at least 300 dpi at the size it will actually print. In other words, if the design will be 10 inches wide across the chest, the file needs to be around 3000 pixels wide, not 600.

That is the number one cause of a print that disappoints. An image pulled off a website or a screenshot looks perfect on your phone and comes out soft on the garment — and by then it's printed. If all you have is a photo of your logo or a small file, don't force it: send it anyway and we'll vectorize it before the printer runs.

How ordering works

  • Tell us your idea. WhatsApp or the form. If you already have artwork, send it; if not, we'll prepare it.
  • We quote you. With quantity, technique and design size, a firm price and a firm date. No obligation, usually same day.
  • You approve the mockup. We send a simulation on the garment and color you picked. Nothing prints until you say yes.
  • Production and delivery. 24 to 72 hours for small and medium runs, and we let you know the moment it's ready for pickup or shipping.

You can skip the back-and-forth and see your design right now in the simulator: upload the file, pick garment and color, and the mockup appears on screen.

Caring for a DTF print

It survives dozens of washes without cracking, with one condition that fits in a line: wash inside out, cold or warm (86 °F max), no hot dryer, and never iron directly on the print.

When a print cracks within a month, it's almost always the dryer. Worth passing on to the end wearer if the garments are for a team or an event.

Where we ship

The shop is in Fairfield, Connecticut. We ship anywhere in Connecticut and to neighboring states — New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island — which keeps delivery to a day or two and keeps shipping from eating the order. If you're nearby, you can pick up at the shop and skip it entirely.

Questions we get

What's the minimum order?

One piece. From a single garment for individuals, with no upper limit for brands and events. Unit price drops above certain quantities.

What does it cost?

It depends on the garment, the size of the design and the quantity. The per-product table is on pricing, so you don't have to write in to ask.

Can I change an order once it's placed?

Every piece is personalized with your artwork, so we don't accept returns for change of mind once production has started. That's exactly why we send the mockup first: review it carefully, because that's the moment when everything can still change at no cost.

Shall we try it with your design?

Upload it to the simulator and see how it sits on the garment and color you want, before asking anyone anything. Or write to us and we'll look at it together.

Is your design a single-color logo? Heat transfer vinyl may suit you better. Is it going on wood or metal? Then it's laser engraving.
